Client Feedback
“Our renovation feels like stepping into a brand new custom home but with the midcentury bones shining through; we are thrilled with the many thoughtful details and skilled craftsmanship.
We cannot say enough about the professional, collaborative, creative, client centred philosophy the entire staff holds and this level of excellence was shared with each of the 15 sub-trades Rusch brought to our project, some of whom had worked with Rusch for over 20 years.
The time flew by during the renovation and it was a very rare day that activity was not buzzing along at the tidy, well organized and safe project site.
We genuinely enjoyed the whole project process with Rusch and even though we now have our forever dream home, if we ever had to renovate again, we would select Rusch in a heartbeat.
We would not hesitate to recommend Oliver and the whole team at Rusch for any home renovation project.”

Renovation Goals
The primary goal was to modernize the home while solving longstanding layout inefficiencies and upgrading performance. The homeowners wanted a space that felt cohesive, highly functional, and reflective of their bold design preferences.
- Improve flow and connectivity across all levels
- Increase usable storage and built-in solutions
- Enhance natural light and openness
- Upgrade energy efficiency and building envelope
- Introduce a strong, unified design language
At its core, the challenge was transforming a compartmentalized, aging home into a seamless and modern living space without losing its original character.
Vision
Modern Contrast Meets Mid-Century Roots
The vision was to create a bold, design-forward home that respects its mid-century origins while embracing a clean, contemporary aesthetic.
- High-contrast palette anchored by deep graphite tones
- Warm wood elements to balance modern finishes
- Clean lines and simplified forms throughout
- Cohesive material palette across all spaces
- Elevated, functional design tailored to everyday living
Design Phase
Creating Clarity Before Construction
The design focused on reworking spatial relationships while layering in a cohesive material and finish palette that flows throughout the home.
- Opened up main floor sightlines and circulation paths
- Reimagined kitchen layout with central island as focal point
- Designed a cohesive millwork strategy across all rooms
- Integrated custom storage solutions, including a Murphy bed
- Elevated the primary suite with a luxurious ensuite layout
- Coordinated lighting design to enhance architectural features
The result is a home that feels both striking and intentional—where every detail contributes to a unified experience.
BEFORE & AFTER FLOOR PLANS
A strategic reconfiguration of the layout allowed the home to function more efficiently while feeling significantly more open and connected.
Old Floor Plan
The original home featured a segmented layout typical of the 1950s, with disconnected rooms and inefficient circulation paths. Storage was limited, and key living spaces lacked cohesion. Structural inconsistencies and outdated framing further complicated usability.
Additionally, aging systems and poor insulation reduced comfort and performance, making the home feel dated both functionally and aesthetically.
New Floor Plan
The redesigned layout prioritizes flow, openness, and intentional space planning. Walls were selectively removed to create visual connections, while new structural solutions ensured long-term stability.
Key areas like the kitchen and primary suite were reimagined to maximize usability and impact. Consistent flooring, millwork, and aligned sightlines now unify the home, creating a seamless transition between spaces.
3D RENDERINGS
3D renderings played a critical role in helping the homeowners fully visualize the transformation before construction began. These detailed visuals allowed for confident decision-making around layout, materials, and finishes.
By aligning expectations early, the renderings ensured the final result matched the design intent with precision and clarity.
Construction Phase
Bringing the Design to Life
Construction required careful coordination across multiple systems while addressing structural and performance upgrades throughout the home.
Key Construction Features:
- Structural wall removals with engineered support solutions
- Floor leveling and corrective framing work
- Installation of new triple-pane windows
- Full insulation upgrades for improved efficiency
- HVAC system improvements and integration
- Custom millwork fabrication and installation
- Precision tilework and finish detailing across bathrooms
Through a highly coordinated design-build approach, the project was executed seamlessly—resulting in a modern, high-performance home that feels both cohesive and refined.
